Langley Vale Solar Farm is a proposed project which would involve the development, construction, operation and decommissioning of a photovoltaic (PV) solar farm and ancillary battery energy storage system (BESS). The project would have a generating capacity of 250 megawatts (MW) and include a 500 MW BESS with four-hour duration.
The Project would be located approximately 5km southeast from the township of Gunning. It is located within the Upper Lachlan Shire Council (LGA) and is 198km southwest of Sydney.
The Project aims to provide a meaningful contribution to NSW’s transition to renewable energy and is aligned with Federal, NSW and local land use policies in this regard. The increase in renewable energy generation, supported by appropriate storage and transmission infrastructure, will reduce Australia’s reliance on fossil fuels for electricity generation and the consequent harmful effects of climate change.
The Project also aims to deliver local benefits. During peak construction, it is expected to create approximately 300 jobs. Once operational, it will be largely remotely managed with 1–3 full-time equivalent roles and will contribute to NSW’s net-zero emissions goal.
